Knit our Christmas Robin Hat suitable to fit a child from 1 to 11 years old.

Design

The hat is knitted flat on straight needles and has a Christmas Robin motif.  The motif is knitted following a chart and using the intarsia method.  The bobble on Robin’s festive hat is knitted up and sewn on separately.  You will need to sew the back seam and add a pompom to the top of the hat.

Sizes

The pattern includes 6 sizes to fit: 1-2 yrs, 2-3 yrs, 4-5 yrs, 6-7 yrs, 8-9 yrs and 10-11 years old. The picture shows the hat knitted for size 1-2 years old.

Yarn

The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative yarn for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).

The picture shows the outfit knitted using Stylecraft Special DK in shades: Silver (1203), White (1001), Red (Lipstick 1246), Dark Brown (1004), Mustard (1823) and Black (1002).

Skill

Intermediate.  Written instructions.  Experience needed working from a chart for the motif.

Tension

22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension. 

Needles

Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
