Knit our V-Neck and Round Neck Cardigans with a Father Christmas and Rudolph motif suitable to fit a child from 6 months to 7 years old.
Design
The cardigans have a motif of Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on each side. The front, back and sleeves are knitted separately and sewn together. The ribbed buttonhole bands are added by picking up stitches and you may prefer to use a 3.25mm circular needle to help pick up and knit the stitches for the V-Neck Cardigan.
Sizes
The pattern gives instructions for 5 different sizes: 6-12 months, 1-2 years, 2-3 years, 4-5 years and 6-7 years old. To fit chest: 46, 51, 56, 61 and 66 cms or 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26 inches.
Yarn
The pattern uses double knitting wool (an alternative for overseas knitters would be USA light worsted or Australian 8 ply).
The picture shows the cardigans knitted for size 2-3 years using Rico Baby Classic DK in shades Green (Ivy 062), Red (009), White (001), Beige (Greige 017), Brown (Clay 037), Black (099) and Light Pink (Powder 038).
Skill
Intermediate. Written instructions provided, but experience needed to work from a chart for the motif.
Tension
22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches/10 cm (stocking stitch) on 4 mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.
Needles
Sizes 3.25 mm and 4.0 mm (USA 3 and 6) straight needles are required.
(optional) small crochet hook to help pull yarn through when making pompoms.
(optional) 3.25mm circular needle to help pick up and knit the stitches for the V-Neck Cardigan.
